Examples of recent work undertaken by the Accidents and Injuries Team

• Advising the claimant in respect of a claim under the Animals Act where the claimant had been attacked by a cow whilst walking across a field. The defendants initially maintained that the cow did not have any characteristics that differentiated her from the breed and that there was nothing to alert the owner that the cow had any behavioural problems. However, upon further enquiry, information came to light that demonstrated the cow had previously aced in an aggressive manner. Liability was then admitted and the claim was settled for the sum of £24,000;
• Acting for a client who suffered significant injuries, including multiple ligament damage and patellar tendon rupture when the defendant pulled out in front of him from a country lane. The client had a talent as a rugby player and a case for future loss of earnings was maintained on the basis that the claimant had some prospects of playing rugby on a semi professional basis. Settlement was achieved in the sum of £94,500 a sum much higher than ever contemplated by the claimant as he had previously been represented by alternative solicitors who had not ever considered the claimant's prospects as a rugby player; and
• Acting for a client who sustained multiple, life threatening injuries in a road traffic accident, leading to the need to complex and expensive rehabilitation treatment and a loss of past and future earnings claim. By the end of the claim, the medical costs amounted to over £120,000. We gathered marked evidence from comparable employees to support the loss of earnings claim. The case was settled one month prior to the date fixed for a 5 day trial.
