Public Funded Property

Introduction

Ashfords Public Sector team act for a wide range of bodies funded directly or indirectly from public funds and who need advice on property issues either for their own purposes or commonly where they are promoting initiatives either through direct or indirect investment in property.

Examples include regional and local Government bodies (regional development agencies, county and local authorities), health bodies including health trusts and GP practices, educational bodies (higher education and further education bodies and schools) and other publicly funded bodies.

  • The acquisition and disposal of freehold and leasehold property.
  • The granting and leasing of property.
  • All property management issues.
  • Property aspects of development.

Recent work undertaken includes:

  • St Austell Town Centre redevelopment.
  • Disposal of a redundant city centre FE College campus and adjoining local authority owned car park for retail development.
  • Acquisition of freehold sites for the development of three new hospitals in Devon.
  • Lease of significant ground and first floor city centre former retail premises for conversion and development as an NHS "walk-in" centre.
  • Advising South West Regional Development Agency in connection with a range of property issues to provide facilities for the 2012 Olympics at Portland and related regeneration projects.
  • Acquisition from a unitary authority of an industrial estate comprising a range of small to medium size industrial units as part of a publicly funded regeneration project.
  • Site acquisition and development of a GP led multi-partnership health centre in conjunction with the development of an adjoining dental school and renovated adjoining primary care centre.
  • Disposal of part of a County Council owned site to a housing association subject to a nomination agreement and obligations to renovate and refurbish retained property as a care facility.
  • Site acquisition disposal and property management for several health trusts.
