Trust, Estates and Tax Planning expert joins Ashfords

Introduction

Leading local law firm Ashfords has just lured top private client lawyer Margaret Lang away from a major London law practice to come and work in the West Country.

Margaret is now part of the team based in Ashford's Taunton office in Somerset but she is also working in North and Mid Devon. She brings with her a wealth of expertise in handling inheritance tax planning, wills, administration of estates and setting up and managing trusts.

A University of Birmingham graduate, Margaret spent over 20 years with a niche London practice. Since qualifying, she has regularly advised individuals, families, estates and trusts on Trust and Tax issues.

Commenting on her appointment, Margaret said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to join such a forward thinking, dynamic local firm with the professionalism of a City practice. I am very excited by the prospect of such a challenging role.

"I have lived in West Somerset with my family for almost 15 years and, until joining Ashfords, endured the weekly commute to London. I will be working from our Taunton office which is an ideal base for me to cover Somerset and parts of Devon. I am thoroughly enjoying working with Ashfords in the West Country."

Margaret is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the STEP charity special interest group, the Law Society Probate Section, plus she has just been appointed joint chair of the Somerset branch of Solicitors for the Elderly.

In her spare time, Margaret enjoys running - she has competed in 14 marathons and numerous other races including triathlons—as well as playing tennis, reading and watching her children in sports matches.

Margaret Lang's appointment also coincides with the recruitment of a new wave of legal talent for the fast expanding law firm in the shape of a further 12 first-year trainee solicitors.

The new trainees join ten second-year trainees recruited last year and they are now posted across Ashfords five offices throughout the South West.

Of the twelve first-year trainees, three will be based in Tiverton, one in Taunton, two in Plymouth, one in Bristol, plus five in Exeter.

Commenting on these appointments, Ashfords head of corporate and managing partner Simon Rous said: "We are delighted to welcome Margaret and our new trainees on board whose undoubted legal talents will serve to strengthen our team here."
