Record intake of top trainees for Ashfords solicitors

Introduction

Expanding West Country law practice Ashfords has attracted a record number of top legal trainees with outstanding qualifications this year and also been ranked as one of the best law firms to work for in the country. Ashfords has just taken on 13 new recruits who together can boast five distinctions, six merits and a commendation between them in their LPC (Legal Practice Course) exams.

In addition, three other trainees have transferred their existing training contracts from other practices to Ashfords, bringing the firm's total number of first and second year trainees to 27, also a record figure.

The new trainees will work in the firm's five offices across the region with six based in Exeter; three in Bristol, two each in Plymouth and Taunton, and three in Tiverton.

All trainees carry out a two-year training contract and most, if not all, sign up as qualified solicitors at their end of their training in one of the firm's offices.

Each trainee spends six months working in four different 'seats' of the law, and in different offices, covering a variety of legal work, in order to ensure they develop a broad range of skills before they qualify.

Exeter based training partner Charles Pallot, who shares the responsibility for trainee recruitment, said: "Having attracted so many highly qualified trainees this year is not only a coup for Ashfords but also shows our commitment and confidence in the future.

"In 2008, we will be increasing our annual intake again to 15 trainees a year as part of the firm's overall expansion plans in several areas of the law.

"Ashfords enjoys an excellent reputation in attracting and developing top quality legal recruits.

"This is evidenced by the findings of the latest Lex 100 Awards where trainees ranked us very highly in an impressive seven out of the ten survey categories nationwide as one of the best law firms in Britain.

"Over the past few years we have employed almost all of the trainees who qualify with us.

"Every year, our trainees tell us that they like our people-focused outlook and open encouraging atmosphere as well as our hard-working, friendly approach, plus the wide range of quality legal work on offer."
