• Mock tribunal tackles redundancy issues

Introduction

Leading law firm Ashfords is offering employers a vital insight into the potentially damaging pitfalls surrounding redundancy by holding a mock employment tribunal.

As many companies face the prospect of making staff redundant in the current economic climate, employers need to ensure they have taken the right steps to avoid potentially damaging claims through tribunals.

Using the example of an estate agent being taken to tribunal by an redundant employee claiming sex discrimination, 'actors' from Ashfords' highly-experienced employment team, in association with recruitment consultants Penna, will go through the tribunal step-by-step, highlighting dangers and issues to be aware of at all stages.

Ashfords head of employment, partner Charles Pallot, said: "The mock tribunal is an excellent way for employers to really learn about procedures and how to tackle the issues. The current climate means businesses are having to look at redundancies, but companies must be aware of their responsibilities and potential consequences."

Although a mock tribunal, all aspects will be authentic, from a real tribunal chairman and scenario, to the law concerning the case. Delegates will be given the chance of asking the witnesses questions, and will then vote on the actual decisions that the tribunal has to make.
